Gardening Ministry 101

What is a garden ministry?

A garden ministry is centered around the church and the church body.  It is a way of growing food on extra land the church doesn't use, for those in need, within the congregation and the community.  It is a ministry, just like a music ministry or a childrens ministy, that can impact the local mission field within the first year.  What a great way to reach those in need with fresh, organic foods and share the love of Christ.

What can you do?  Ask your pastor or core members of your congregation if this would be right for your church.  The answer will probably be yes!

Here are a few questions you should ask yourself:

  • Does your church have land that serves no other purpose than to cut the grass?
  • Does your community, much like every community around this state, have people in need of food?
  • What about the hungry in your own congregation?

We can help.  We'll show your ministry team how to use that extra land and feed people in your local mission field.  Contact Scott Tyson for more information .

Check out the churches that have participated in the Garden Ministry 101 class thus far:

Senoia Vineyard Community Church

"Sow Good" Garden is a garden ministry of about 10-12 team members.   Growing in compost filled raised beds, this ministry is maximizing space and nutrition, which will be a blessing to those receiving these wonderful vegetables.

The ministry team is focused on serving the poor and elderly within the Senoia community by growing fresh vegetables that can be delivered to those in need.

Community Christian Church

"CCC Garden" is a garden ministry of 8-10 members.
2011 is the first year for this ministry and they've hit the ground running.  They too have decided to build raised beds and fill them with compost.

The "CCC Garden" is growing healthy, nutrient rich food for those in need within the Coweta County area.
